Food and snacks in school
Nut Free School!
Please do not send any nut products into school as we have children with severe nut allergies.
There are also other allergies across school and therefore, we kindly request families adhere to requests made by school staff.
Our School Meals
School meals are seasonal and provided by Kirklees Catering, costing £3 per day. A copy of the Kirklees Seasonal Menu is at the bottom of this page.
Packed Lunches
You can choose for your child to bring a packed lunch from home. Children will be asked to take all of their packed lunch left-overs home with them so that parents can monitor their eating habits. This allows parents to see exactly what has been eaten and to discuss their child's choices with them. Children are allowed to have their own juice at lunch time.
Children who bring a packed lunch to school should ideally have one which provides them with a balanced diet and supports the habit of eating healthily. NHS advise says that, a balanced packed lunch should contain:
- Starchy foods, such as bread, rice, potatoes, pasta etc.
- Protein foods, such as meat, fish, eggs, beans etc
- A dairy item, such as cheese or yoghurt
- Vegetables or salad, and a portion of fruit.
Snacks
The only foods that are permissible for school snack are either fresh fruit or vegetables or dried fruits without a coating.
Toast Tuck
Toast is served each Tuesday and Friday at morning break times. As we are a cashless school, if you would like your child to have this optional extra (at a cost of 20p per serving) you can buy this item for the whole of the term by making a purchase via MCAS. Pre-School do not have this extra service as they already have mid-morning snack every day.
Drinks
As a school we encourage our children to drink a range of healthy drinks throughout the school day e.g. water and milk. Children are encouraged to drink water, which is available throughout the school day. To support this, all children must bring a water bottle to school. These bottles may only contain plain water and may be refilled at the water coolers when needed.
CoolMilk scheme
Our school provides a milk scheme that is available to all of our pupils. School milk is free for all under-fives. All other children can register with Cool Milk and receive a 189ml milk carton daily at a subsidised cost of approximately £18 per term payable directly to Cool Milk.
Each pupil that registers with Cool Milk will receive a carton of fresh, chilled, semi-skimmed milk every day in school. School milk will provide children with essential nutrients, is rehydrating, energy boosting and helps them stay focused.
