Pupil Premium
What is Pupil Premium funding?
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities for some groups of eligible children in state-funded schools.
Pupil Premium funding is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. Pupil premium is not a personal budget for individual pupils, and it is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, and they are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. This is because schools are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.
Who is eligible for Pupil Premium?
- Pupils who are recorded as eligible for free school meals (FSM), or have been recorded as eligible in the past 6 years (referred to as Ever 6 FSM). If you think your child might be eligible for free school meals please complete the following link https://apply.cloudforedu.org.uk/ofsm/sims. You will need your NI Number and date of birth.
- Children previously looked after by a local authority or other state care, including children adopted from state care or equivalent from outside England and Wales.
- Service pupil premium is additional funding for schools with children and young people of service families.
Even if your child brings a packed lunch, please still check your eligibility as this can bring additional funding into the school.
Who holds schools accountable for Pupil Premium Spending?
The DfE holds schools accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils. OFSTED inspectors may also discuss plans schools have to spend their pupil premium.
