Art and Design
Pupils at St Michael and All Angels will engage in an art curriculum that will support them to express their feelings and beliefs through a range of mediums. They will be inspired by famous artists to create aspirational pieces of art and gain the knowledge and skills to turn their imagination into reality. Pupils will leave our school with an appreciation of art and the skills to take their interests further.
Art and design is taught as part of a half-termly or termly topic, focusing on knowledge and skills stated in the National Curriculum.
In EYFS, Art and design plays a very important role in children's development. Expressive arts and design involves enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role play and design and technology. They safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, texture, form, printing and pattern.
From Years 1 upwards, the children will engage in four art and design units a year which will involve the children researching the work of artists, practising skills, designing, making and evaluating.
